Life | A Little Bit of Inspiration

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
I think everyone can relate to this because we've all had those days when we're feeling down and need a little pick me up. One of my favourite ways to re-motivate myself is to look at inspirational quotes, especially when they're in beautiful typography. Here are just a few I've found lately...

I feel these are all important messages but ones that often get forgotten in everyday life. They're all fairly self explanatory but I'll just do a quick overview of why I found them particularly uplifting;

Don't sweat the small stuff - I'm definitely guilty of over thinking and sometimes forget to add perspective in certain situations. There's no point in getting all worked up over something that can't be changed or that's in the past. I find it helpful to think 'Will I still care about this in a years time?' and if the answer is hell, no then forget about it and move on.

The less you'll care, the happier you'll be - A similar message as before but I think this sat with me so well as I'm a massive worrier. I worry about anything and everything and it's downright exhausting! I think I needed this little reminder that I need to not care so much, especially when it comes to what people think of me.

The best things in life aren't things - This saying is a favourite of mine as I'm also guilty of being a tiny bit materialistic from time to time. Okay, the majority of the time. But I know, deep (deep, deep) down, that what really matters isn't buying another Mac lipstick but actually the experiences I can remember forever. Spending my money on trips to visit friends and holidays and days out with my loved ones are infinitely better than a make up product. I know that, I just sometimes need a gentle reminder...

'In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart' - This quote really hit home. If Anne Frank, of all people, can still see the good in people I should be able to also. It's easy to feel on the verge of losing faith in humanity these days, with attacks on the innocent becoming a daily occurrence but then I'll see a quote like this and faith will be restored again. Yes, there are bad people in the world, but for every bad person there's a good person too. Yin and yang.

I hope this post was inspiring to some of you and if you're already in a good mood, maybe something to save for future reference. I'm thinking about making this a regular feature so let me know if you liked it.

Beauty | Four or More

This is a post I originally wrote for Lizzie's blog (lizwills.blogspot.co.uk) but I thought I would share it on my own blog as well now she's published it as I'm thinking about making it into a series. So here's the post...

The idea behind this post is that if you own four or more of a specific product, you most probably really like it. I can't claim credit for this as I first saw it on Megan's blog, who in turn took inspiration from Kate's original post. I thought this was such a neat idea to share with people as you know you're going to get a good quality product if someone is willing to keep going back and repurchasing more. Now on to the products I've picked to share with you guys...

I know this first product is an obvious one but they're hyped about for a reason - they're insanely good! Here I have pictured the Naked, Naked 2, Naked 3 and a lesser known Sustainable Shadow Box. Urban Decay's eye shadows are one of a kind, the pigmentation and colour pay off are amazing and they are perfect for both everyday wear or to create a sultry night time look. Another thing I love about these palettes is that they all come with high quality brushes I can actually use, unlike other palettes where I just chuck them out straight after opening. I also think that these are a great investment piece for someone just getting into eye shadow as they are so versatile with many colour combinations and different looks you can create from one palette. Yes, they are a little (a lot) on the pricey side but they are worth every penny in my opinion.

Top Left to Bottom Right - Dallas, Rockateur, Bella Bamba, Coralista, 10, Georgia, Sugarbomb, Thrrrob, Dandelion, Hoola, Hervana

Coralista was one of the first high end products I ever bought and it still remains one of my favourite ever products to this day. Slowly but surely, I appear to have collected eleven (yikes) of these wonderful boxed powders. Although some of these I like more than others (sorry Thrrrob), they are all amazing quality. The blushes are all beautifully shimmery without making me look like a disco ball and the pigmentation is just right to give a lovely flushed look without any dreaded clown cheeks. The bronzers (Hoola and Dallas) are also on another level to any others I've used. They both give a lovely sun kissed look without any orange undertones and Hoola in particular is ideal for contouring as it is completely matte. Once again, an expensive product but they last forever and are definitely worth the investment. Plus, the packaging is super cute!

Left to Right - Multi Task Brush, Buffing Brush, Essential Crease Brush, Contour Brush, Setting Brush

These little gems are the ultimate brushes. I actually have about 20 various brushes by Real Techniques but for the photo I thought I'd use my five cleanest ones! I never realised how much difference brushes made to my make up appliation until I started using these. They apply my base make up flawlessly, blend my eye shadows a dream and give a really defined contour and highlight. What more could you want from a brush? They are also very affordable, especially when bought in the collections as they work out about £5 a brush. Absolute bargain.

From Left to Right - Lady Danger, Snob, Ruby Woo, Rebel, Plumful, Hue, Ravishing

If I ever want to treat myself, a Mac lipstick is normally what I go for. They're raved about so much in the blogging community and for good reason, there are so many shades and finishes it's impossible for you to not find one (or seven) you love. Excluding the matte finish, they all glide on seamlessly and aren't drying on the lips. I own two matte lipsticks, Lady Danger and Ruby Woo, and although they can be a bit drying, they do have great staying power and if I'm wearing them on a night out I'll only need one touch up the whole night. And lets face it, decent matte lipsticks are never going to be nourishing on the lips (sad but true). Paired with Cherry lip liner, Lady Danger is my ultimate vamp look.

From Left to Right - Pearl, Peach Melba, Bright Red, Shocking Pink, Cobalt Blue, Mushroom, Berry Ice Cream, Huckleberry

Barry M is such an affordable brand but the colours are still really good quality, especially the Gelly Hi Shine Collection. They're perfect for experimenting with new shades because the colour range is unbelievable and for only £2.99, it's not a disaster if the colour doesn't suit you or goes out of style after a month. They glide on a treat and become completely opaque after two coats, the perfect application in my opinion. If I ever need a little pick me up, one of these babies normally comes to the rescue and my collection is ever growing. You can never have too many nail polishes, 100% scientifically proven fact...

Thanks again to Lizzie for this amazing opportunity! What products do you own four or more of?

Update || Life in pictures #3

Top row - One of the many photos of Percy, view from the tram on the way back from Ikea, a 20 year old photo of my family home.
Bottom row - Cuteness overload, behind the scenes of a blogger, dinner with my oldest friend.

It's been a good few weeks since my last update post so I'll try keep this brief as there's a fair bit to get through.
I'll start off with my trip to Ikea, as delivery was more than the actual coffee table I wanted, I decided to take matters into my own hands and go get it myself (with the help of my boyfriend). This sunset was on the tram ride home and I left it completely unedited, sometimes the world is beautiful all on its own.
Next is this photo I found of my old family home when we first moved in, 20 years ago. It's so strange how different it looks, mainly because the door's been red for as long as I can remember!
Whilst I was visiting my sister, I painted my nails and of course, took a notd photo for Instagram. This was one of the many outtakes as Percy seemed very interested in what was in my hand so it was rather hard to get a photo!
As I was back in my home town, I decided to catch up with my oldest friend Laura and had a lovely meal at Rosie's Diner. I've never been before but I was seriously impressed by the decor. There was an actual life size American school bus inside, so cool.

Top row - A gift from my sister, all dolled up at the Hilton, this charming man.
Bottom row - Cocktails at Cloud 23, overlooking Manchester, a treat from my beau.

My sister and I made a quick trip into Leeds whilst I was there and she bought me this Urban Decay Setting Spray. She took pity on me as I'm currently on a spending ban, she's always spoiling me for one reason or another though.
When I arrived back to Manchester, my wonderful man surprised me by taking me to the Hilton for the night. We don't normally have time together due to our conflicting work schedules, so he made the most of it and spoilt me rotten. He went all out and got us an executive room, took me out for a Mexican meal (my favourite) and we had cocktails at Cloud 23 which has the most amazing view of Manchester. As if that wasn't enough, he also treated me to a little something from Selfridges the next day when we went to the Trafford Centre. There will be a full blog post on my visit to the Hilton to follow soon so keep your eyes peeled!

Top row - My blog on an iMac, date night selfie, standard pug selfie.
Bottom row - Having a rest, Percy's pulled, over excitement on Instagram.

Whilst at the Trafford Centre, we had a look in the Apple store. I wish I could look at my blog on a mac everyday!
One night last week, my two favourite boys and I went for an evening stroll and a drink at a local bar. I was quite impressed with myself that I went out to a bar with only concealer, mascara and lip gloss on and a quick filling in of my brows! Normally if I'm going out in the evening I wouldn't dream of anything less than a full face of make up so I'm proud of myself for this small accomplishment.
This last one is a tad silly but I wanted to include it anyway. As Benefit is my favourite cosmetics company, I was in shock when they liked little old me's picture of their products. Next thing you know they'll be sending me press samples (fingers crossed).

Top left to bottom right - Selfie with the bestie, pug, pug and more pug.

On Wednesday, my best friend and I finally hung out together after what felt like forever, even though it had only been less than two weeks. We saw the film What If which was a bit meh but we also had Nando's which is always a winner in my book.
These last three photos are all because I'm back in Leeds again as I'm going to Leeds festival tomorrow. So of course, I'm spending some quality time with my little prince as well. This last photo cracks me up, we decided to put Percy in my tote bag as we don't have a proper dog bag for him and his face turned into this big squishy mess. Needless to say, we took him straight back out again after we'd got a quick picture!

That pretty much brings us up to date with my life, the interesting parts at least! If you'd like to see what I'm up to in real time, be sure to check out my Instagram @cleeeming for regular updates! Ciao for now.

Fashion || High Street Hit List #2

Grey Slogan Sweatshirt £25 - River Island
Red V Neck Cami £14 - Miss Selfridge
Nude Burnout Playsuit £25 - Miss Selfridge
Black Eyelash Lace Bralet £14.99 - Missguided
Blue Overlay Playsuit £45 - Miss Selfridge
Lace Co Ord £32 - LilyLuluFashion
Pink Floral Scrunchie £3.99 - New Look
'Kiss Me' Sweatshirt £12 - Topshop
Ripped Bleach Wash Jamie Jeans £15 - MOTO Topshop

Once again I have a few items I've been lusting after recently. Sadly, as I'm on a spending ban currently, none of these will be getting purchased any time soon but a gal can dream.

If you're remotely interested in the blogging world I'm sure this 'Full Time Fashion Blogger' sweatshirt will be old news to you now but it's still fresh in my mind at the top of my want list. My boyfriend offered to pay for half of it as he knew how much I wanted this item but I still couldn't justify spending £12 on something I don't need. Thinking back now, I feel like I should have took him up on the offer!
Next up, this red cami is similar to one I borrowed from my friend Lauren when she came to visit me in Manchester (see photos here). Since wearing hers, I've been searching for one myself as I thought it paired well with my newly blonde hair and a slick of red lipstick.

Recently, my sister asked me to visit Miss Selfridge for her to see if they had an item in stock she wanted (they didn't *sob*) and whilst I was there I was pulled in by this overlay style of playsuit. It's such a flattering shape and I can imagine me wearing one of these on my 21st birthday, sipping cocktails in New York.
Something else that's caught my eye is this floral scrunchie. As I'm heading to Leeds Festival this weekend, I thought one of these would be perfect to wear around a top knot to keep my hair out of my face. I think it's a subtle nod to the flower garland trend without going all out.
Then there's just a few sale items and items I've seen on other bloggers and that completes this hit list.

Hope you enjoyed guys, anything you particularly like/dislike on here? Let me know in the comments!

Ciao for now!

OOTD || Farm with the flat mate

Shirt - H&M
Jeans - Topshop
Shoes - Primark
Bag - Primark

Recently, I went on a day out with my flat mate to a local farm which I blogged about here if you're interested in reading about what we got up to. Seeing as I had the camera with me, I thought it'd be the perfect opportunity to do my first ever outfit post!

This has been my go to outfit this summer as it's super comfy but still looks polished so has been ideal for any occasion. I'm so glad I purchased these jeans because I've got so much wear out of them, they've been great for giving a summery vibe but still keeping me from freezing in this British weather. I've never owned a pair of Topshop jeans before but these are by far the comfiest jeans I've ever worn so I may well have to invest in a second pair for winter.

Sunglasses - Next
Earrings - New Look
Lipstick - MACs 'Snob'
Rings - Topshop
Initial Ring - Miss Selfridge

Interiors || Home Inspiration

After buying a few home decorations over the past month or so for my new flat, it's really given me decorating fever and gotten me really excited for the day when I have a whole house of my own to fill with goodies.
Until that day comes though, I will continue to browse tumblr and daydream of my future home. Here are a few pictures I've particularly liked...

As you can probably tell I love flowers and would ideally have them in every room in my home! Due to the cost of them though, I may have to settle for fake flowers unless I become a millionaire.

I adore pretty, delicate lighting and would love to have a room with a chandelier as the main feature.

Another part of having my own house I'm looking forward to is having a little space that is all my own. Whether it be a corner of the bedroom or a whole room with a dressing table/walk in wardrobe (I'm dreaming big here) I can't wait to decorate it exactly how I want! No worry of annoying the landlord with pin holes in the wall.

I think from all the above pictures you can gather that my style is to keep things light and minimal with a few accent colours dotted around.

I would love to have a whole wall filled with books and treasures I've picked up on my travels as I think it gives a house a lot of personality.
When it comes to kitchens I can never decide if I'd rather have the super sleek modern vibe or the country look with a slight modern twist to it. I think I'm leaning more towards the country style as seen in the first picture in the second photoset at the moment.
Lastly, I just had to include this globe. I absolutely love globes and maps and growing up I had a world map on my wall and a map of The States in my study, a theme I would love to continue in my own home.

Disclaimer: As these photos are all ones I've saved from tumblr I'm not sure of the sources but none of them are my own.

I hope you enjoyed this, I know it's not the most exciting of posts but as I'm currently bedbound I'm trying to get creative with what I can do from my phone! If you want to see more home inspiration, feel free to follow me on tumblr at alalumiere

Fashion || Primark Haul

I recently made a few purchases in Primark and thought I'd share them with you guys. Personally, I always find hauls from Primark useful because they don't have their own website to browse and the stores can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. This way you get to see some of their stock without the hassle of fighting your way through the shop itself, what could be better!

Playsuit - £14

I immediately picked up this playsuit when I saw it as it's one of those rare finds in Primark that looks a lot more expensive than it actually is. I was instantly drawn to this item as it's mint which is very on trend this summer, as are floral patterns and the neckline is very 90's. Such a flattering shape and unexpected bonus, it has pockets!

Shirt Dress - £13

I'd been looking for a casual summer dress for a while and this little gem ticked all the boxes. The floaty, lightweight material makes it perfect for this weather and means it's great to just chuck on when you want a fuss free outfit. Daisy print is everywhere at the minute and this is such a good way to wear it without a massive investment.

Bag - £8

If you're a regular in the blogging world, you'll be sick of the sight of this bag by now but I'm so excited to finally have it in my possession. I'd been lusting after this bag in the pink shade for a while but after taking the advice of my friends who I was shopping with, I decided to get the powder blue version instead and I'm so glad I listened to them. Since purchasing this beauty, I've been using it non-stop as it's an ideal size and goes with literally any outfit. I'm a massive fan of gold hardware and think this bag looks a lot more expensive than it actually is. Such a bargain at only £8.

Bodysuit - £3

As I'm a massive Disney lover, I instantly wanted to buy this when I first saw it in my local store. However, as it was £6 originally, I decided (with my boyfriends help) it was a bit too much money to spend on something I don't actually need and only wanted for the novelty factor so left it (rather begrudgingly) behind. A few weeks later when I went in again, there it was in the sale section for half price coming in at a mere £3. Although I know I won't exactly be wearing it regularly, I can't wait to wear this on my next trip to Disney World in Florida and I think I could pull it off with some simple high waisted shorts in the time being. As you can see in the photo below, I was using my door to take photos on which just so happens to be covered in Disney posters including one of Ariel which is very similar to the body's design. A happy coincidence!

Hope you enjoyed this haul! Once my spending ban is over I can guarantee there will be another Primark haul up straight after. Their A/W lines looks to die for!

The Liebster Award

I was nominated by the lovely Stephanie from Steph's Silver Lining to take part in the Liebster Award. I'm so flattered that she thought of me as I'm very new to the blogging world and she has an amazing blog which you should all go check out. Anyway onto the award, if you haven't heard of this before the rules are as follows:

  • You must answer 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you.
  • You must link back to the person that nominated you.
  • After completing these questions you must nominate 11 bloggers (with under 200 followers) and give them 11 questions of your choice.
  • You can not nominate the person who nominated you.
  • You need to leave your nominees a link to your post so they can read the instructions and know what to do.

Question Time
What are you most scared about?
This is an easy one for me, the future scares me as I have no idea what I want to do career wise. Not knowing what lies ahead for me is a constant panic in the back of my mind although I take small comfort in knowing that the majority of people my age (20) are in exactly the same position.

List three things on your Bucket List.
As I absolutely love travelling, I would love to visit every continent in the world as I've only been to North America and Europe (where I live) before. This is a fairly standard one but I would like to own my own property at some point in the future. I love interior design and would love to have my own place to decorate and call my own. Lastly, something a little lighthearted but I have never seen any of the Star Wars films so would like to watch them all at some point.

Which Disney movie is your favourite?
Okay so I may have to cheat on this as I have two I absolutely adore to bits and I simply can't pick a favourite. The first film is Hercules as it is one of the funniest Disney Classics in my opinion. As well as being hilarious, it's got an amazing soundtrack which I know ALL the words to (I'm not even joking) and the characters are on point. Megara is so sassy and fab, as is Hades, who is definitely one of my favourite Disney villains.
The second favourite is, of course, Pocahontas. This film is incredible, the soundtrack is flawless and the ending is so perfect. I think it's very refreshing to have a Disney film where the couple don't end up together and I actually love this film so much that I named my dog after the pug in it! As you can probably tell, I'm a MASSIVE Disney fan.

What is your favourite tea flavour?
I'm not very adventurous when it comes to tea as I'm sensitive to caffeine so don't drink it too often but when I do I stick to the standard English Breakfast. Boring, I know!

What book has left a lasting impression on you?
This is going to be a very obvious answer but I'm going to have to be cliché and say the Harry Potter series. These books really spoke to me when I had nothing else and without sounding too melodramatic, I wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for JK Rowling. I love the books so much that my first tattoo I got was actually Harry Potter related.

Are you friends with someone you've never met in person before?
Yes! I've met many people through the internet, with websites such as Tumblr, who I've never met in person. Two in particular, Danielle and Jacob, spring to mind. I started speaking to both of them five years ago when I first got Tumblr and still keep in touch with them through Facebook to this day.

If you could live a day in the life of someone famous, dead or alive, who would it be?
Again, I'm going to cheat on this question and give two answers as I really can't decide; the first answer being the amazing Walt Disney. Having his imagination, even just for a single day, would be the most magical experience and having access to everything Disney related would be a dream come true for me (excuse the puns).
The second of my choices would be the great Anna Wintour. Considering she has my dream job, I would love to spend a day in her life. Wearing the latest couture pieces, choosing what goes into one of the most influential magazines in the world and attending runway shows and the most elite parties would be heaven for me. She has so much power and influence on such a massive, global scale that I can't even imagine what it must be like to be her therefore I'd love to find out first-hand.

What is your favourite jewellery item to wear?
I definitely prefer wearing earrings to anything else although I have been loving piling on the rings recently, love a good midi ring!

What is your favourite song of all time?
My taste in music is so vast and varied, ranging from Arctic Monkeys to Beyonce, Kanye West to Kesha and of course I love a Disney soundtrack so it's hard for me to pick just one song! However, if I really had to choose, it would most probably be something by Eva Cassidy. Her voice is one of a kind and nobody will ever compare, she was a truly incredible artist and it's such a tragedy that she didn't get the credit she deserved whilst she was still alive. If I had to pick a specific song though, I would either go with Fever or Wade in the Water. If you've never listened to any of her stuff before, seriously go check her out. You can thank me later...

Who inspires you?
So many people! I get inspired by celebrities such as JK Rowling and Demi Lovato as they've both battled depression and come out the other side stronger which is what I'm constantly aiming towards. Demi Lovato is such an amazing role model, along with Kesha, as they've both been public about their problems and they're now both focused on being healthy and refuse to give into pressure from the media to look a certain way which is so refreshing and brave. They've helped me realise that I should focus on being healthy rather than wanting to weigh a certain amount.
I also get inspired by fictional characters such as; Cher Horowitz, Carrie Bradshaw, Blair Waldolf and Electra Heart. They remind me to be sassy, fierce and not care what people think of me, especially when it comes to what I'm wearing. Another major fashion inspiration for me is Youtubers and Bloggers. My all time favourites are Sunbeams Jess and Jenn Im from Clothes Encounters. Their style is simply flawless and they always make me want to go on a massive shopping spree after watching their videos.
Lastly, how could I leave out the cliché answer of my family and friends. I would be nowhere without my sister and dog as they're a constant reminder for me to not give up and to try make them proud. My sister has sacrificed a lot for me over the years and has always been the person I've looked up to the most for as long as I can remember.

What TV series do you wish still aired?
Definitely the easiest of these questions to answer, it has to be Veronica Mars! It breaks my heart that this show got cancelled after only three seasons but Veronica and Logan will always be my OTP. If you haven't seen it before, go watch it NOW.

If you got to the end of these questions, I applaud you. No seriously, I have no idea how this post ended up so long but I apologise and hope I haven't bored you too much. Now onto the 11 bloggers I've chosen to nominate and the questions they'll be answering.

The Nominated Bloggers

The Questions
1. What is your holy grail drugstore beauty product?
2. Where is your favourite place to eat?
3. What is your most treasured possession?
4. What, in your opinion, is the biggest fashion faux pas?
5. Describe your dream house.
6. What is your current go-to outfit?
7. Who/what inspired you to start blogging?
8. Which is your favourite make up brand?
9. What is the first memory you can recall?
10. Do you have any tattoos? If not, would you ever get any in the future?
11. What is your best physical feature?

Hope you guys have fun answering these questions and if you do, please leave me a link in the comments so I can check out the post! Thanks again to Steph for nominating me.

Day (& Night) Out || Home Girls Come to Stay

A couple of weeks ago, I had the great pleasure of having two of my best friends from school come visit me in Manchester. Due to us all living in different cities now, we only get the chance to meet up once every few months but it's definitely worth the wait. Even though we haven't seen each other in a while it's like we've never been apart when we get together, which I think is the sign of a great friendship. I could go into detail about our friendship, however I'd be here for hours so for now I'll just give you the rundown of what went on when they came to stay.

They arrived on the Tuesday and as it was a gloriously sunny day I decided to take them to Spinningfields. We sat in the deck chairs soaking up the sun whilst having a good catch up with each other. This is probably one of my favourite spots in Manchester as it's perfect in the summer to just sit and relax with friends.

We all started to get a bit peckish after a while though so headed home to get some food. We were planning on going out for a few cocktails that night but in the spur of the moment we decided to make the most of the fact we were together and go on a proper night out to a club. I'm not a regular club goer but I do enjoy it every once in a while, especially if I'm with the right people. We had a go at making our own cocktails seen as we weren't going out for them anymore and they actually tasted pretty delicious. One of the best things about the night out though was that I only spent £1!

Thanks to the amazing app Uber, we managed to get two free taxis there and back. If you're in the Manchester area I really recommend it as it's a lot cheaper than any other taxi companies I've been with and if you use the promo code nzqo9 you can get your first ride free (for up to £10). As I'd had a drink before going out and got a free taxi, the only cost I had to pay was entry to the club which was only a pound. I know 42's isn't the most glamourous of clubs but I always have a good time there and if you don't like it, you've only wasted £1 getting in! I honestly had the best night out I've had in a very long time, and definitely the cheapest.

I apologise for the poor quality of photos but I only had my phone with me whilst we were out and obviously it wasn't the best lighting either as it was night time.
The next day we decided to wander round the city centre as we all needed to pick up a few bits and then came back to mine to have a typical girly pizza and film night.
As always in these situations, it all came to an end far too quick and before I knew it I was hugging them goodbye. These girls mean the world to me and I can't wait for our next mini reunion in Newcastle.
